Julia Letlow has represented Louisiana's 5th District since April 2021, after her husband Luke Letlow died before taking office, and won the 2026 Republican Senate nomination with Trump's endorsement. She sits on Appropriations, including as vice chair of the Labor-HHS subcommittee. In January 2026 she reported about 209 trades from her own Merrill Lynch account late, some more than a year late, including health-care stocks and Meta shares bought after she signed a Meta subsidiary's data-center NDA. Her office says the firm traded with full discretion and that she self-reported to House Ethics. Her personal assets are modest. She missed 5.9% of House votes, half of them in her Senate primary month.

The stock-trading ban

H.R. 7008 passage, Jul 22, 2026
Yes
Cosponsored a ban bill
None

H.R. 7008 bans new stock purchases by members, spouses and dependents; it doesn't force sales of existing holdings. The Senate vote was on the version paired with the SAVE Act, which is why no Democrat voted yes. Full breakdown →

Amounts are the ranges members must report, not exact values. The STOCK Act requires a report within 45 days of a trade; "late" counts days past that deadline, measured to the filing date.

How the score breaks down

Stock self-trading
25% weight
62
Greederboard's parse of two PTRs shows 257 transactions in her own Merrill Lynch account (230 individual stocks across 113 tickers, $0.3M-$4.0M in reported ranges). 209 were filed late in a single report signed 01/13/2026, some 402 days past the deadline; 98 were more than a year late. As vice chair of the Appropriations Labor-HHS subcommittee, she held 35 trades in health-care names (UnitedHealth, Pfizer, AbbVie, Humana, Centene and others). Reporting found she bought Meta stock after signing a Meta subsidiary's NDA on a Louisiana data center. Her office says Merrill Lynch traded with full discretion and she self-reported to House Ethics.
Net-worth enrichment in office

Her disclosed assets are modest (bank accounts, a state retirement plan, a residence, 529 plans and the Merrill account) with a home mortgage of $100,001-$250,000. No sign of unexplained growth. On 01/13/2026 she amended her annual reports back to 2020 to add the brokerage holdings.
Money → action alignmentcorrelation, not proof of any quid-pro-quo
20% weight
30
Correlation, not proof. As an appropriator, she took $1.05M of her $2.61M 2023-24 House receipts from PACs. The Meta data-center NDA and stock purchases (see stock_trading) are the clearest overlap of private interest and district business. A Campaign Legal Center complaint alleges a Baton Rouge federal contractor illegally gave $100,000 to a super PAC backing her; the complaint targets the contractor, not her.
Campaign-fund personal use
15% weight
10
No personal-use allegation found. In March 2026 Sen. Bill Cassidy's campaign, her primary opponent, filed an FEC complaint alleging a fundraiser solicited soft money for a super PAC on her behalf; her campaign called it 'desperate' and said the fundraiser is not its agent. It remains an unresolved allegation by a rival. A 2020 FEC complaint against her late husband's committee closed with no reason to believe.
Revolving door & family
15% weight
8
Her fiancé, Kevin Ainsworth, is a Baton Rouge lawyer who co-leads Jones Walker's state government relations practice; reported clients include Amazon, American Express and Cargill. No federal lobbying of her office or contracts tied to it were found. Not yet a spouse.
Skips the job to fundraise
10% weight

Voteview shows 40 missed votes of 674 (5.9%), about three times the House median. Half (20) came in May 2026, the month of her May 16 Senate primary against Sen. Bill Cassidy. That is a campaign-driven spike for another office, so it scores below chronic absence.
