Wesley Hunt, a Houston Republican in the House since 2023, sits on Natural Resources and Judiciary. He reported no stock trades in 2024-2026 and his finances are modest. The Office of Congressional Ethics found substantial reason to believe he used campaign funds personally at a private club; the Ethics Committee closed the matter in December 2024, citing recordkeeping lapses but no intentional misuse. Campaign Legal Center has a separate pending FEC complaint against his leadership PAC. He missed nearly a quarter of House votes in the 119th Congress, much of it during an unsuccessful 2026 Senate primary run.

H.R. 7008 bans new stock purchases by members, spouses and dependents; it doesn't force sales of existing holdings. The Senate vote was on the version paired with the SAVE Act, which is why no Democrat voted yes. Full breakdown →
Disclosed stock trades
No periodic transaction reports on file since 2024. That's the norm: most members don't trade individual stocks, or hold them in blind trusts and diversified funds.
Amounts are the ranges members must report, not exact values. The STOCK Act requires a report within 45 days of a trade; "late" counts days past that deadline, measured to the filing date.

Greederboard's House Clerk data contain no periodic transaction reports for Hunt in 2024-2026, and his 2025 annual report lists no transactions. Holdings are small positions in Apple, Meta and a mutual fund, plus spouse retirement funds.
His 2025 annual report shows modest household finances: roughly $0.5M-$1.1M in assets (mostly his wife's retirement funds) against a $250,001-$500,000 mortgage, student loans and credit-card balances. Nothing suggests enrichment from office.

Correlation, not proof. Hunt sits on Natural Resources' Energy and Mineral Resources subcommittee. By Greederboard's keyword classification of FEC bulk data, oil, gas and energy PACs (Valero, Phillips 66, BP, Marathon, Occidental, Koch, Halliburton and others) supplied about 34% of his PAC money in 2024 and 43% of a smaller 2026 total. That overlap is real but typical for a Houston member, and no donor-to-action link is documented.
The Office of Congressional Ethics referred Hunt to the Ethics Committee in March 2024, finding 'substantial reason to believe' he converted campaign funds to personal use. The matter covered over $74,000 spent at Houston's Post Oak Hotel, including dues for its private Oak Room club. The committee closed the matter on Dec 30, 2024 without action, finding compliance and recordkeeping lapses but 'no evidence that any member intentionally misused campaign funds.' Separately, Campaign Legal Center filed an FEC complaint in Aug 2025 alleging his leadership PAC misreported over $1.8M paid to WinRed; that complaint is an allegation and no resolution was found.
No family lobbying, office-linked contracts or staff pipeline was found. His wife's disclosed income is from Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor University. Not scored.
Voteview shows Hunt missed 159 of 674 roll calls in the 119th Congress (23.6%), about 12 times the House median. The peak came during his Senate primary run (43 of 47 votes missed in January 2026). He had already missed 15-38% of votes each month from January to July 2025, before entering the race, and earlier cited his son's premature birth (2023) and campaigning with Trump (2024). He finished third in the March 3, 2026 primary. Running for another office is context and scores lower than skipping votes to fundraise.
